Do we sometimes wonder what life is all about? It’s normal to carry on from day-to-day and not really think about such profound things, but just sometimes, something happens and we stop to question everything.
If evolution is true and everything is just down to random chance, then there is little point in trying to make sense of anything. Bit if we believe there to be a Creator, an Almighty God, and if we believe He created everything, then surely He had a purpose in mind, when He did so?
IF God did have a purpose and if He shared it with us, then we might expect that He caused it to be written down for us to understand and that would be in the Bible.
| Ecclesiastes 3:1 | For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: |
|---|
This confirms there IS a purpose and probably, it has many parts. Is this a strange thing to ponder? Why did God create the Universe?
| Romans 8:28 | We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. |
|---|---|
| Romans 9:11 | For being not yet born, neither having done anything good or bad, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works, but of him who calls, |
So with these verses, we can deduce that calling people is a part of His purpose
Ephesians 1:11 | We were also assigned an inheritance in him, having been foreordained according to the purpose of him who does all things after the counsel of his will, |
|---|---|
| Ephesians 3:11 | according to the eternal purpose which he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord |
| 2 Timothy 1:9 | who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given to us in Christ Jesus before times eternal, |
So We have some useful information here:
In Ephesians 1, we learn that it was part of God’s purpose to pick us out for the wonderful opportunity of eternal life.
In Ephesians 3, we learn that God’s plan and purpose was carried out and accomplished in the Lord Jesus, His Son.
In the second letter to Timothy, we are told again about our calling and our salvation by the undeserved kindness – grace – of God.
So in summary, God does have a purpose; He does not just leave everything to chance and part of that purpose is to choose people to share eternity with Him and His Son, Jesus.
